1.  2001 Dominus Proprietary Red Wine

Dominus
Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Proprietary Blend (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker 95 points
Drink 2006-2023

The impeccably made 2001 Dominus boasts a dense plum/purple color in addition to a fragrant, promising perfume of cocoa, cedar, coffee, roasted herbs, and copious quantities of black fruits. There are 7,000 cases of this 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot blend. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with sweet but noticeable tannin, a layered mid-palate, and a long finish with obvious tannin, it will require 3-4 years of cellaring. It should last for two decades.

2.  2001 Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap District

3.  Damilano

Score: 93
Barolo Cannubi 2001
Country: Italy
Region: Piedmont
Issue: Oct 15, 2005

Aromas of toasted oak, crushed berries and dried flowers follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Cannubi excelled in 2001. Best after 2008. 750 cases made.

4.  2001 Gaja Barbaresco

Gaja
Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy
Nebbiolo (a dry red table wine)
Wine Advocate #160 (Aug 2005)
Daniel Thomases 93 points
Drink 2005-2016

The 2001 Barbaresco is simply the best in living memory, eclipsing such impressive efforts as those made in 1982 and in 1970-1971. Poise, elegance, and balance are the keywords here, with lovely notes of licorice and roses followed by a broad, textured, layered palate, a seamless flow of pleasure which shows off all the ripeness, spiciness, and depth of the fruit. The prospects for the 2001 selections are obviously mouthwatering, but in the meantime this wine will give no end of pleasure between 2005 and 2016.

5.  Luce della Vite

Wine Spectator Score: 92
Toscana Luce 2001
Country: Italy
Region: Tuscany
Issue: Oct 31, 2004

Plenty of blackberry and fresh leather aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is a seductive, ultrarefined wine. This firmly places Luce in the big leagues. Well done. Best after 2005. 7,300 cases made.

6.  Silver Oak

Wine Spectator Score: 88
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2000
Country: California
Region: Napa
Issue: Sep 30, 2004

Starts out with creamy, milk chocolaty oak leading to a core of currant and plum-flavored fruit, offering richness, depth and complexity, finishing with a plush, concentrated aftertaste. Those who like well-oaked Cabernets will find this most appealing. Drink now through 2010. 25,000 cases made.

7.  Lail

Wine Spectator Score: 90
J. Daniel Cuvée Napa Valley 2000
Country: California
Region: Napa

A dense, rich, complex and concentrated wine, with layers of earthy currant, peppery-spicy notes, cedar, mocha and tobacco. Shows ample tannic strength on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2005 through 2012. 1,400 cases made.

8.  Far Niente

Wine Spectator Score: 93
Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2002
Country: California
Region: Napa
Issue: May 31, 2005

Intense, with a tannic structure, yet the plush currant, anise, earth and cedar flavors push to the forefront and show an excellent range of depth and concentration. The finish turns tight, with a burst of plum, berry, cedar and tobacco. Best from 2006 through 2013. 8,100 cases made.

9.  2002 Rudd Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown

Rudd Estate
Oakville, Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker 95 points
Wine Advocate #157 (Feb 2005)
Drink 2005-2020

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Estate is a 2,550-case blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. It is aged 20 months in new French oak prior to bottling. This super effort comes across as a Napa version of top-flight Pauillac. Dense ruby/purple to the rim with a gorgeous nose of smoke, cedar, burning wood fires, and creme de cassis, this powerful, intensely rich, complex Cabernet reveals notions of chocolate, charcoal, and blackberry fruit. It should age effortlessly for up to 15 or more years.

10.  Winery: Hollywood & Vine

Wine Spectator Score: 92
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2480 2001
Country: California
Region: Napa
Issue: May 31, 2004

Beautifully crafted, dense and detailed, with vivid currant, blackberry, exotic spices and pretty oak seasoning all tightly wound and sharply focused, finishing with a long, rich, concentrated aftertaste and fine-grained tannins. Remarkably graceful and elegant. Best from 2005 through 2014. 1,013 cases made.

11.  2002 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon

Chateau Montelena
Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker Rating: 91 points
Wine Advocate #162 (Dec 2005)
Drink 2005-2015

The non-estate Cabernet Sauvignon, which is now completely sourced from Calistoga vineyards, provides a fine introduction to the Montelena winemaking style. Normally Bo Barrett includes 10-15% Merlot in the blend, and these wines often age for 10-15 years. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is the sexiest of the three most recent vintages. A soft, deep ruby/purple-tinged offering with loads of black currant fruit as well as hints of damp earth, licorice, and underbrush, this silky-textured, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon will provide delicious drinking over the next 10 plus years.

12.  1999 Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino Rennina

Pieve Santa Restituta
Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Sangiovese Grosso (a dry red table wine)
Review by Daniel Thomases Rating: 90 points
Wine Advocate #158 (Apr 2005)

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina, essentially the regular bottling, is a fresh ruby-garnet with focused and ripe red currant and wild cherry fruit, attractive notes of tar and wild fennel, and a balanced, vigorous, and well sustained palate.
