1.  2001 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon

Oakville, Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker 90 points
Drink 2007-2023

Readers looking for power and muscle should check out the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a classic bouquet of creme de cassis, tobacco leaf, sweet chocolate, and Asian spices. There is impressive fruit on the attack, good breadth, and plenty of muscle and tannin. Give it 4-5 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 15-16.

2.  2001 Sette Ponti Oreno

Tuscany, Italy
Dry Red Table Wine
Robert Parker 95 points
Drink 2005-2025

The 2001 Oreno is simply a great wine. An inky ruby with purple highlights, intensely expansive and sweet on a fruit-rich nose which is loaded with smoky tar and graphite notes, it is packed and powerful on the palate with a density and concentration which are cunningly concealed by the plush and caressing texture, the superb balance and exceptional length of the finish and aftertaste.

3.  Donatella Cinelli Colombini

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1999
Wine Spectator Score: 91
Country: Italy
Region: Tuscany
Issue: May 15, 2005

Plenty of blackberry and mineral aromas and flavors, with hints of toasty oak. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. A beauty. Best after 2005. 1,105 cases made.

4.  2001 Senorio de San Vicente San Vicente

Rioja, Spain
Dry Red Table Wine
Robert Parker 93 points
Drink 2005-2015

This single-vineyard estate-bottled Rioja has been a consistent winner in recent vintages. Not surprisingly, in such a great year as 2001, it performed fabulously well. Aged 20 months in primarily French oak, and bottled unfiltered, it is Spain's version of a top-flight Pomerol. It boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as an expressive bouquet of crushed red and black fruits, cedar, spice box, licorice, and smoked herbs. With great fruit, an opulent, full-bodied palate, tremendous purity as well as length, and abundant fruit and glycerin nearly concealing the moderate tannin, it should drink well for 8-10 years.

5.  2001 Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap District

Stag's Leap District, Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker 93 points
Drink 2005-2018

The gorgeous, dark ruby/purple-hued 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap offers scents of new oak, flowers, black and red fruits in a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, well-balanced style.

6.  Thomas Fogarty

Wine Spectator Score: 91
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley  1999
Country: California
Region: Napa
Issue: Nov 15, 2002

Spicy and complex, with violet, black currant, blackberry and roasted herb flavors gripping the tongue with firm tannins. Toasty oak, earth and pointed mineral tones keep coming through a lengthy, firm finish. Best from 2004 through 2012. 796 cases made.

7.  Grgich Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2000

Wine Spectator 86 points
Drink 2004-2009

A touch green and herbal, with an austere band of currant and blackberry, picking up an earthy, leathery streak at midpalate and finishing with a tart blackberry edge.  Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 14,771 cases made.

8.  2002 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon

Forman
Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker 94 points
Drink 2005-2023

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is a big, rich, classic California Cabernet displaying Napa Valley's power and intensity allied to finesse and restraint. A blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with 12% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot, and a dollop of Merlot, its deep purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of violets, creme de cassis, camphor, and hints of melted licorice as well as espresso roast. With supple tannin, an opulent, layered mouthfeel, great fruit, full body, and tremendous balance and purity, it can be drunk young, but promises to keep for 15-18 years.

9.  Heitz Cellars 2001

no rating.

The 2001 Napa Valley Cabernet is a stunning wine from the vintage everyone has been waiting for.  Deliciously concentrated and gracefully classic, the flavors continue to unfold and mesmerize on this voluptuous Cabernet.  The wonderful balance of smooth, rich, ripe varietal characteristics are so enjoyable...a winner.

10.  2002 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon

Chateau Montelena
Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Cabernet Sauvignon (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker 91 points
Drink 2005-2015

The non-estate Cabernet Sauvignon, which is now completely sourced from Calistoga vineyards, provides a fine introduction to the Montelena winemaking style. Normally Bo Barrett includes 10-15% Merlot in the blend, and these wines often age for 10-15 years. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is the sexiest of the three most recent vintages. A soft, deep ruby/purple-tinged offering with loads of black currant fruit as well as hints of damp earth, licorice, and underbrush, this silky-textured, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon will provide delicious drinking over the next 10 plus years.

11.  2001 Franciscan Magnificat Proprietary Red Wine

Franciscan
Oakville, Napa, North Coast, California, USA
Proprietary Blend (a dry red table wine)
Robert Parker (87-89) points
Drink 2003-2013

The 2001 Magnificat is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. It displays more force, depth, and delineation than the 2000, in addition to copious quantities of toasty oak, sweet, chunky, chocolaty, black currant flavors, and a medium-bodied, easy-going personality. It should drink well for a decade.

12.  Winery: Hollywood & Vine

Wine Spectator Score: 92
Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2480 2001
Country: California
Region: Napa
Issue: May 31, 2004

Beautifully crafted, dense and detailed, with vivid currant, blackberry, exotic spices and pretty oak seasoning all tightly wound and sharply focused, finishing with a long, rich, concentrated aftertaste and fine-grained tannins. Remarkably graceful and elegant. Best from 2005 through 2014. 1,013 cases made.
